Are you ready for self-directed learning?

In our introduction case study, Napoleon Dynamite was ready to pursue a self-directed learning program, while Lois Lane was not. As you probably noticed, a better up front assessment should have been conducted. After all, one of the first questions that must be addressed when designing or delivering instruction is what do we know about our learners? Typically standardized assessments or informal questionnaires are used to answer this question. What about self-directed learning?

In 2007, Swapna Naskar Williamson developed a self-rating scale of self-directed learning in higher education. Rather than read about it, let’s try it out. Remember, this is a self-assessment. Only you will see the responses.
