Why Technology and Which Ones?

The purpose of this course is to teach participants a few different ways to use specific platforms to help their students succeed. Implementing technology in the K-12 music class can really help in student success. The topics for this mini-course are to assist instructors in keeping open strong lines of communication and access to the instructors and the content. The Weebly page allows teachers to create sites that can hold content, assignments, scaffolding videos and contact information as well as the use of the Remind 101, which reminds students, via email or text message, of upcoming assessments and assignments with due dates. The Smart Notebook software allows teachers to design imaginative and creative activities that create hands on participation in the learning process. Smart Notebook can also take attendance, assess and also allow students to compete against each other in content driven games and challenges. The Web-Quest is a tool that can be fun, like an information scavenger hunt as well as a good way to strengthen research practices, reading and writing skills and discerning between trusted information and false information in the online environment.

Task Analysis

Unit 1: What is a Weebly site?

  • Participants will navigate www.weebly.com and complete a scavenger hunt
  • Participants will design and create a site specific to their course load.

Unit 2: How does Smart Notebook work? Prerequisite: Must Have Access to Smart Board in your Class

  • Participants will complete a series of simple tasks to become familiar with the software.
  • Participants will create a single lesson or game using their knowledge of Smart Notebook software

Unit 3: What is a web-quest?

  • Participants will read about web-quests and complete a prefabricated assignment.
  • Participants will design and create their own web-quest

Congratulations on finishing the course. From this point on, you, the participant, should be comfortable enough to implement these technologies into your classroom. The goal of this course was to allow you to explore, research, create and design three systems of connecting, communicating and engaging students through a course sharing website (Weebly), engaging lessons using auduio, video and games (Smart Boards) and the higher level thinking internet ready classroom research assignments of the web-quest. Informatin can be found all over the internet for these specific options. Educators and also sek out professional development opportunities to better their skills and become more efficient and fluent in these technologies.
