The purpose of this unit is to create successful 3-dimensional assessments that can be implemented into classrooms today. In order to complete this task, you will first brainstorm with your peers ways in which you believe your assessments currently are or are not 3-dimensional. You will then explore what 3-dimensional assessments look like and ways to go about creating them, and will share your new insights with your peers. Before creating the assessment, you will determine which performance expectations you would test in the unit you chose, and will then create two 3-dimensional assessments, one formative and one summative.

Objective 1: Participants will brainstorm how their current assessments are or are not 3-dimensional.

Objective 2: Participants will discuss new insights gained about 3-dimensional assessments.

Objective 3: Participants will observe the performance expectations from their topic of choice.

Objective 4: Participants will be able to create 3-dimensional assessments (both formative and summative) based on their unit of choice.

The purpose of this discussion is to get you thinking about your current assessments, and how they might be 3-dimensional already or not. Objective 1

  1. Visit Google Classroom
  2. Find the question titled "3-Dimensional Assessments". Follow the instructions given in the post to answer the prompt. 3 dimensional assessments.png

The purpose of this portion is to gain new insights in what 3-dimensional assessments look like for the teacher and the students, what they are based off of, and how to create them successfully. Visit the American Museum of Natural History's website for more information on writing 3-dimensional assessments. Objective 2

  1. Video copy.pngWatch the EdPuzzle titled "NGSS Lesson 4 EdPuzzle Video" and complete the questions as prompted.
  2. Book copy.png Visit the following website to read an article about creating 3-dimensional assessments.
  3. Question copy.png After reading, return to your post and add a comment to it, adding some new insights you gained from the article. Title your post with "New Insights". Respond to 2 other classmates' new insights.

Analyze copy.pngAnalysis of Performance Expectations

The purpose of this portion is for you to become familiar with what your students will need to be able to do when tested. This will help guide you when creating 3-dimensional assessments. Objective 3

  1. Visit the NGSS website
  2. Using the drop downs, click on the topic you chose for your unit plan
  3. Review the performance expectations listed for your unit. (Provided is a picture of what a performance expectation would look like.)

Assessment copy.pngCreate Assessments

The purpose of this assignment is to create 3-dimensional assessments that we could implement in our classrooms. Objective 4

  1. Revisit your unit plan and find at least 1 location where a formative assessment would fit, and 1 location where a summative assessment would fit.
  2. Create at least 1 formative and 1 summative assessment based on the PE's (Performance Expectations) and your reading of creating assessments that are 3-dimensional.
  3. Turn your assessments into Google Classroom by uploading them to the assignment called "Completed Assessments". Completed assessments.png
