Unit 2 - Regular Verbs in the Future & Conditional Tenses

ETAP 623 Fall 2010

Vivian's Portfolio Page

In this unit I will review with the students their prior learning about the subject pronouns in Spanish and how verbs are conjugated. After introducing the future and conditional endings, we will then discuss how to conjugate regular verbs in the Future and Conditional Tenses and what their translations mean, in order to make sure they are using the correct key words in English in their translations. The smart board will be used again in this unit to reach various learning abilities and styles.

Instructional Objectives

  1. Students will be able to conjugate regular verbs into the future and conditional tenses.
  2. Students will be able to use the appropriate key words in English in their translations of verbs conjugated into the future and conditional tenses.

Pre-Requisite Skills

  1. Understand the difference between the words "will" and "would" in English
  2. Understand the basic subject pronouns in Spanish
  3. Understand the basic conjugation procedures in Spanish
  4. Conjugate both present tense and past tense verbs in Spanish

Instructional Activities

  • For our warm up I will ask students which words in English we use to discuss the future and conditional tenses.
  • I will then review with the students the subject pronouns and how verbs are usually conjugated. The reason I want to make this clarification is that in the future and conditional tenses, we do not remove the verb endings as we do with the other tenses. I will explain this to the students, and I will also explain that for this reason, they do not have to worry about stem changing verbs.
  • I will distribute the attached notes page to introduce the future and conditional endings to the students. This will be accompanied by a smart board visual. Media:Notes - Future.Conditional.pdf
  • The students and I will then do a practice on the smart board using the new future and conditional endings. Because I can't upload smart board program files here, I've put them into word documents and saved them to pdf files so you can get an idea of what they look like. For this activity, the students take turns volunteering to come up and fill in the conjugations on the smart board. Media:Práctica.pdf
  • To reinforce the unit vocabulary on employment, I will use the smart board to show the pictures in the attached pdf file. With the pictures, the students are asked to write a sentence using a regular future or conditional verb along with the vocabulary that refers to the picture shown. Media:El Empleo Pictures.pdf
