Module 3 Overview

In module three (3) we will be focusing on the 21st century skill of Collaboration. There will be emphasis placed on the benefits of student collaboration when working together in small groups. We will discuss the impact that collaboration has on the intellectual and social growth of students. We will also see how collaboration transforms a classroom from a teacher-centered approach to a student-centered approach.

Your first task is to take notes on the videos within the Module 3 Mini Lecture tab as well as the articles within the Module 3 Required Readings tab.

You will be required to complete one (1) discussion for this module. The directions to complete this task can be found within the Module 3 Discussion Prompt tab. Please include references to the mini lectures and required readings as you see fit. Remember to relate to your own experiences and generate two (2) substantive peer responses.

Your next task will be to complete the Module 3 Assessment: Collaborative Google Slides Presentation. You will experience the benefits and challenges that collaborative learning can have when working with your peers. We will be utilizing Google Slides and a Web 2.0 Tool that can record your presentation. More directions can be found within the Module 3 Assessment – Collaborative Google Slides Presentation tab.

Finally, you will be required to complete a Module 3 Discussion Conclusion. This is an open-ended prompt that you will submit to your instructor explaining what you gained from the module or something that stood out to you.

Module 3 Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, the learner:

  • Will critique and defend various benefits and challenges of implementing collaborative approaches within the learning environment. (Cognitive Learning Domain)
  • Will create a collaborative presentation comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the skills of collaboration and communication. (Psychomotor Learning Domain)
  • Will identify and integrate strategies and outlooks when infusing communication skills within the learning process and learning environment. (Affective Learning Domain)

Module 3 Mini Lecture

Please watch all videos attached for this module. These videos will replace the lecture segments of a traditional in-person course. When developing your discussion posts, small group activities, or independent assessments, I encourage you to incorporate concepts and methods covered throughout the videos.

Module 3 Discussion Prompt

Use the following prompt to guide your discussion post. You do not need to answer every question, they are here to ignite your thinking.

Do you believe that collaboration is an essential skill needed to foster an effective learning environment? Define the benefits and challenges of implementing collaborative approaches within the learning environment. Do you think that collaboration amongst peers deepens the understanding of the content? What collaborative strategies have you implemented within the classroom? What would you modify and what would you keep constant?

I encourage you to include personal experiences when answering this prompt.

You will be required to create an initial post and two substantive peer responses. All posts should include APA Citations including required readings, mini-lectures, or additional references found outside of the required readings.

Module 3 Assessment - Collaborative Google Slides Presentation

Students will create a collaborative presentation comparing and contrasting the characteristics of the skills of collaboration and communication. Students will be required to screen record their presentation and include images, personal experiences, scholarly articles, et cetera. Please utilize Web 2.0 Tools to complete this assignment. Students will be evaluated on their completion as well as participation throughout the presentation. Each member of the group should contribute an equal amount.
