Tracking progress in the classroom is essential for academic growth. Educators must be able to analyze responses or behaviors to identify tendencies and areas of struggles when it comes to student learning. Tracking can be done through a variety of different formats such as observations, conversations or writing, i.e progress monitoring sheets. The data collected should be recorded and reviewed for planning purposes. Information collected can also be used to assign grades for students such as participation or used to influence longer assignments. A progress monitoring sheet can be tailored to match the areas needing to be addressed as identified by the teacher. Sheets can be individualized to match a particular student or specific to several (explored further in the next lesson). Altogether, it provides a space to log data. In this lesson you will practice effective progress monitoring strategies and brainstorm your responses to various problems in a classroom.
