About me
I've been teaching composition, literature, and gender studies courses at the college level since 1997. I began as a graduate teaching assistant at West Virginia University, spent two years as a Visiting Instructor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and have been at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, since 2003. I earned my PhD in 18th Century British Literature, with a focus on women's writing, but have since become something of a Jill-of-all-trades in academia, publishing on topics as diverse as Reality Television, female rivalry in Early Modern women's poetry, fashion and beauty in the Middle East and North Africa, and the deployment of female icons like Medusa in popular culture, to name a few. I'm also a creative writer; while my first love is poetry, I've also dabbled in playwriting, fiction, and personal memoir and I'm a founding member of the group, Straw Mat Writers. When I'm not writing, I'm training for half-marathons, hiking in the ADK (38 mountains to go!), gardening, dancing, and parenting two feisty daughters and a menagerie of unruly animals. Oh, and I love going to the Finger Lakes for wine tours!
