I am Cheryl DePra, a graduate student at University at Albany pursuing studies in Curriculum Development & Instructional Technology. I work in administration at SUNY Purchase College, also my alma mater. My interests include early childhood education, Montessori pedagogy, play-based learning, and emergent methodologies in literacy acquisition. My most recent research examined the basis of exemplary Montessori practices that build literacy development in young learners including (a) constructivist theories of learning; (b) immersive multi-sensory qualities of the environment; (c) opportunities for extemporaneous dialogue in a social, collaborative environment; (d) strong emphasis on pre-literacy activities and phonemic awareness.
