Instructor comments on your needs assessment and objectives -- Jianwei Zhang (talk) 15:03, 17 March 2013 (EDT)

Melyssa,

Your project is addressing a very interesting topic. I'm pleased to see the amount of work you've carried out so far. A few comments:

  • Re. the following performance objective: "Learners will be able to generate the amplitude, frequency, period, wavelength, and velocity of a sound wave." I'm not sure what you mean by "generate". Do you mean identify, describe, measure???
  • Re. your task analysis (ahead of the class schedule), I assume that the prerequisites should include basic concepts such as sound, wave, etc.
  • I'm also curiose what pedagogical approach you will use to foster understanding of this interdisciplinary topic. Are you particularly using the teaching for understanding framework of David Perkins and colleague?

Instructor comments on your ICM -- Jianwei Zhang (talk) 15:49, 15 April 2013 (EDT)

Melyssa,

Your task analysis and ICM will inform your mini-course well. You've listed 8 units, which may be too time-consuming for you in this course. Unless you need to cover all 8 topics for other reasons, you can scale down your mini-course to 3-4 topics.

Again I want to encourage you to use innovative strategies of teaching (problem-based, inquiry...) to foster interdisciplinary and deep understanding.
