Your design project focuses on an important and interesting topic: using/analyzing blogs of students to track progress and reflect on learning/teaching. You've had a nice start! A few suggestions:

  • Terminology: To be clear, you may use "the participants" to refer to the user/learner in your mini-course: teachers/educators who will learn this topic; and use "students" to refer to their students in the classroom.
  • Your needs assessment section needs to be fine-tuned to analyze the needs/gaps of knowledge among your target participants: how much do they know/practice already? what are the gaps?
  • Your performance objectives: It is great that you already have this list. After you read the chapters on performance objectives, you should be able to refine these to be more specific and describe what the participants will be able to perform after (not during) taking your mini-course.

Hi Jessica,

I read your portfolio page updated so far. Your objectives can be refined to be more specific.

· Explain the definition of blogging-- Do you expect the participants to define blogging or explain features of blogging when given a definition?

· Identify different sites that are good for educational blogging: Do you mean to name such sites or to additionally demonstrate how to use these site?

· Create a blog of their own: Do you mean create a teacher's blogging site or for their own classroom (to additional engage students in posting)?

Also, I feel that you may want to include an objective on learning design: how to design and facilitate reflection and discussion using blogs.

Please work out your task analysis and curriculum map soon, so you will be able to work on the units of this mini-course.
