Talk:Courtney Mills Mini-Course: Integrating iPads into the Elementary Classroom

Unit 1 Feedback -- Rweiss (talk) 09:44, 27 April 2017 (EDT)

Hi Courtney!

I signed up to review your mini-course.

I think I may have gotten my timeframes mixed up a little so if I'm late/early in my review, my apologies!

I like the layout of your first unit! I have some formatting suggestions, but I'm not sure how much time and/or effort they would take to implement, so if they look like a lot of work feel free to ignore them!

First, I know that you have the layout of the iPad above the descriptions, but I thought it might be possible to provide small screenshots along with each concept? I don't know if you think that would add to the presentation of the concepts or clutter up the page too much. Wiki is a very fickle format to work with.

Second, I know at the beginning you said that the student would watch various videos, and I noticed that they link to youtube videos... I *think* it might be possible to embed youtube videos in the actual wiki page itself, although I could be wrong about that. I know video embedding is possible, not too familiar with using wiki combined with youtube thought. Just a thought!

Maybe it would even be possible to integrate the tests into the wiki format, or use something else to assess students during the course? The reason I'm thinking about this as well as the video suggestion is because I was thinking that there might be ways to cut down on the number of extra tabs and sites that a student would have to visit during the course. I mean, if you take a look at my course I use quite a few external links too, but for me they're all optional parts of the course, because I think cutting down on the navigation that someone has to do during a course helps keep things organized and straight for the learner.

Other than that, I was happy to see navigation links on the bottom of your course! I remember at the beginning of the semester we saw some examples of courses without that and it became very easy to get lost.

I think using visuals, tests, and videos during your course is great! I think you've got a great layout and if you keep the same format for the other units I think it will flow very nicely and easily.

Anyway, those are my thoughts and suggestions. Let me know if I can help, or if you want to ask me about something, or if you think I might have missed something, etc.

Happy almost end of the semester!
