Introduction and Purpose
Technology has become a major part of everyday life for the human race in the past 100 years. Education has seen major changes with the adaptation of certain technology in the classroom. This course is going to look into the many uses of the SMART Notebook program in the classroom. This course will have an introduction to what SMART Notebook is, how to navigate the program, creating a lesson, and sharing it.
Instructional Problem: Teachers want to be able to navigate and create fun and engaging SMART Notebook lessons.

Intended Change I am expecting or desiring: I am hoping that student will learn how to navigate and create Lessons using SMART Notebook 11.

Learners indicated in the survey that it was important to learn:
- How to navigate SMART Notebook
- How to create interactive lessons
- Implementing different forms of media into the SMART Notebook Lesson
- How to take pictures with the document camera
- What the program can be used for.
Analysis of the learner and the Context
Intended Audience - This course is being created for educators or students who want to gain a better understanding on how to use SMART Notebook in their classroom. This will benefit teachers in all grades who have access to the program. It is intended to introduce the program and go over lesson creation and utilizing the many features of SMART Notebook 11.
Prerequisites for this course – In order to be successful teachers in this course need to have a general understanding of computers, media, utilizing SMART Boards, and own or have access to a copy of SMART Notebook 11.
Course-level Objectives =
Learners will be able to:
- Explain the benefits of using SMART Notebook 11.
- Navigate the program's different features.
- Create lessons utilizing the program.
- Describe how they could implement this program in their classroom.
Performance Objectives =
Students will be able to how to navigate the SMART Notebook 11 program by creating a mini lesson on SMART Notebook 11 that incorporates different elements found on a checklist with 90% accuracy.
Students will be able to identify the pros and cons of using SMART Notebook 11 by participating in a discussion with a minimum of three posts.
Students will be able to utilize SMART Notebook 11 in their classrooms by creating a lesson that must have at least three specific elements that can be used with a SMART board.
1. What is SMART Notebook 11?
Students will learn about the program, its uses, and what they hope to learn.
2. Navigating the program.
Students will discuss the different features of the program.
Students will have to complete a quiz on the different navigation tools and submit a sample lesson utilizing them.
3. Creating lessons in SMART Notebook 11.
Students will discuss lesson creation, what they found difficult or easy.
Students will create a lesson using the program with the knowledge they have gained so far. They will have to complete a checklist.
4. Let us make our lessons interactive.
Students will discuss the pros and cons of creating interactive lessons in their classroom use.
Students will create an interactive lesson that satisfies a checklist along with providing feedback to peers.
5. Time to see what we can do.
Students will discuss what they have learned, found most useful, and remaining questions.
Students will discuss the different applications for the program.
Students will create a lesson on any topic that utilizes at least 10 features learned in this course.
