Note.jpg Introductory Narratives

Apart from the lyrics, instructors can use many other different components of music for history instruction. Such as the history of diverse genres of music, the social contexts and backgrounds of the songs, songwriters and singers, historical themes and events appeared in the Music Video (MV) of the song and the like. This lessson demonstrates a brief example of how to utilize other musical component (MV) to teach history subject.

  • Play the MV of "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson, let students note down the impressive video clips and pictures appeared in the MV as many as possible.
  • Invite students to figure out the corresponding historical events and figures of these clips and pictures.
  • Replay the MV, pause and introduce the historical events or figures when they appear.
  • Provide related links and materials of these events and figures to students so that they can acquire more facts, meanings and knowledge by themselves.
