Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to

- Understand unique characteristics of the Kinesthetic learning style.

- Demonstrate knowledge of supporting material for Kinesthetic learning style.

- Identify study strategies that are helpful.

- Develop study strategies that are more effective for Kinesthetic learners.

- Analyze the use of multimedia formats from various media that support this learning style.

The kinesthetic learning style is the style in which students prefer interactive lessons and experiences. These students may struggle to learn from a textbook or someone else's experiences, and would rather participate in their learning.

Characteristics of the Kinesthetic Learning Style

Kinesthetic learners learn best by touching and doing.

Some of the most common characteristics of students who favor Kinesthetic learning style are:

  • Learn skills faster than concepts
  • Enjoy sports and physical activity
  • Lose interest quickly
  • Like touching things and working with hands on materials
  • Explore the environment
  • Chances of being impulsive
  • Tapping their pencil or foot while studying
  • Very expressive talkers

Strategies for Kinesthetic Learners

There are a few strategies you can use to enhance yours, or your students, kinesthetic learning skills:

  • Models
  • Drawing materials
  • Puzzles
  • Wooden numbers and letters
  • Experiments
  • Globes and maps
  • Use flashcards, presentations, graphs, etc.
  • Using manipulatives to explore concepts
