Applying concepts with limited resources
Even if teachers do not have access to computer labs or individual laptops for every student, there are some ways in which the techno-savvy teacher can introduce the virtual world into his/her real world classroom.
1. In a one computer classroom, teachers can demo a virtual world experience on a data projector, and ask students to engage in brief role playing activities (character interviews and freeze frames), (Rozema 102).
2. Write or talk about how a literary work might play as a video game, and how video games and literary texts share certain generic features (character, setting, plot, perspective, narrative)
- Ex: If Lord of the Flies were a video game would it be a first person shooter with every boy/man for himself, or a strategy game in which players would have to manage the island, decide which units would hunt and which would tend the fire? (Rozema 102).
