Hi Jenna,

I just notice your design project portfolio created at this mini-course link. Your mini-course addresses an important needs of educators, and the instructional analysis is helpful for your next steps.

Re. your performance-based objectives (copied below): you need to refine the objective statements based on what we've learned in the objectives and assessment module. For example, the verb "learn" describes the process during the learning, not a performance capability achieved through/as the result of learning. You need to use a performance verb in each statement. Also before these three objectives, my sense is that you need an objective for the participant to be able to summarize what FBA is about/good for.

 Course-level objectives
 Participants will learn how to analyze an FBA to determine the antecedents that set the stage for challenging behavior.
 Participants will learn how to analyze an FBA to determine the function of the behavior.
 Participants will learn how to conduct an FBA.

Throughout your portfolio page, there are quite a few typos (e.g. in the above objectives, "an FBA"; I understand that this is work in progress.

Jenna,

Since the term of FBA is new to many teacher learners, you need a general introductory objective for the participant to be able to understand/summarize what FBA is about/good for.

Please work out your curriculum map soon so you can work on your units.

Hi Jenna,

I did not see a link to an actual mini-lesson so I am going off of your portfolio page for your review. Just as a note, it seems you have more performance objectives than the three you listed, each item under your curriculum map is an objective you want participants to reach so throw those in that section as well. Also I agree with our professor that saying "participants will learn" is a bit too vague, in fact I think you could just cut that part out and you would be good to go, especially in the ones that say analyze and discuss. It looks like you have a solid start here, this is a topic that interests me and is very important to any first year teacher who is just beginning to learn how to manage a classroom. You might want to consider switching your units 3 and 4 because unit 3 is having them create their own FBA. This could be a good way to wrap up your topic and give it a summative assessment. Hi Jenna!

I too will give you a few suggestions regarding your portfolio page since there wasn't a lesson to look over. I believe that your lay out looks very neat, easy to follow and understand. Which is great! Because that is very hard to do on this site. Also, I agree with Kate, for your performance objectives you don't need to write "Participants will learn" Take that out and just say, "Participants will conduct their..." Again, agreeing with Kate, those two sections for your units should be switched as well. Go over everything the students they need to know to end it with the final result of conducting their own FBA. Also, what else will you be having your participants go over? Will they be using their own experience? Will you be giving them examples of different behaviors that a FBA may need to be used for. If you need any help of ideas for your units please feel free to ask me! I have used FBA's ALOT during my college years and my previous job. Especially reinforcements. An idea I had about your lessons is that you could use different forms of reinforcements for your learners and ask them to document what methods worked best for them. Just so they can see it put into action. I love the topic and your layout looks good. Just fix those few little areas that Professor Zhang, Kate and I have mentioned and I believe you will be golden. Also maybe add a picture or something catchy to grab the learners attention on this page. Good luck!

This mini-course is overall in a good shape. See my suggestion at the top of this tab re. objectives. You're yet to refine them. See also your peers' comments.
