Course Overview and Purpose

When Covid-19 happened, many teachers found themselves at a loss for how to connect with the students, how to get their work to them, and how to assess the work the students were doing at home. Teachers needed a way to connect with their students and support their learning needs, all through a computer. That's where Seesaw comes in. Seesaw is an app-based platform that allows students, teachers, and family members to complete and share classwork. Not only that, but the platform allows for numerous ways to share and express each student’s learning.

Through this course students will:

  • Learn how Seesaw can help teachers both in and out of the classroom
  • Explore the numerous assessment tools provided by Seesaw
  • Discover and explore the extensive Seesaw library, as well as learn to create a new Seesaw lesson

This course aims to support teachers by providing them with a valuable online resource that can be used to connect teachers, students, and parents. Here you will be given the opportunity to expand your online knowledge and add a new tool to your classroom.

Needs Assessment

At a time when learning is constantly shifting from in person to online, teachers do not have the time to research the resources being given to them. Teachers want to learn about the important features of Seesaw and how it can help them in the classroom. Teachers also want to know about the educational impact that Seesaw provides such as classroom management, creating student engagement, and increased student achievement (Kyoko, 2017).

Teachers are not aware of the resources available to them to help reach their students online, outside of school, or digitally. Of the teachers that are aware of the resources, they do not know how to choose which one is the most beneficial to their individual classroom. This course will help teachers explore Seesaw and learn valuable knowledge as to why it is one of the most useful online platforms available to them.

Performance Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to

  • explain what Seesaw is and the educational benefits to using it
  • Identify the assessment tool used on Seesaw and determine when you would use each one
  • Summarize the steps to creating a Seesaw lesson

Course Units

This mini-course includes the following units. Click the title of a unit to go to its page.

Unit 1: What is Seesaw and how does it support student learning?

Students will learn what Seesaw is and what is it used for. Students will also learn the educational impacts of using seesaw and the benefits it provides to teachers, students, and families.

Unit 2: How can I use Seesaw to assess student work?

Students will discover the importance of assessing student work. Students will also explore the assessment tools provided by seesaw and when to use each one.

Unit 3: How can I create a Seesaw lesson?

Students will learn about the different topics supported by Seesaw. Students will also explore the Seesaw lesson library and learn what steps are necessary to creating your own Seesaw lesson.
