Welcome students! It is no question that technology is a huge part of your life, and will continue to be in college and most likely someday in your career. A really helpful tool to know how to use is Excel. It can be extremely helpful for math activities, especially for statistical data. In this course you will be introduced to Microsoft Excel 2007 and then create a spreadsheet of data, make statistical calculations, and create a histogram. Have fun!!

PREREQUISITES

Students who take this course must have completed a unit on statistics covering measures of central tendency, frequency tables, and histograms.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Use Excel to create a spreadsheet to display, organize, and manipulate data.
  • Perform mathematical operations using different functions and formulas in an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Create a frequency table and histogram using formulas and charts.
  • Edit spreadsheets and charts so that they are appealing and presentable.

Unit One: Intro to Excel

Objectives

  • Student will become familiar with Excel 2007 and be able to navigate around a workbook.
  • Student will be able to find, recognize, and identify Excel formulas.

Unit Two: Spreadsheets

Objectives

  • Student will collect data and enter it into an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Student will use formulas to calculate measures of central tendency.
  • Student will format a spreadsheet to look presentable and professional.

Unit Three: Graphing

Objectives

  • Student will use the data from unit two and Excel formulas to create a frequency and cumulative frequency table.
  • Student will create and format a frequency histogram and cumulative frequency histogram using the frequency table and chart tool.

Reflection on Excel

Objectives

  • Student will reflect upon the course
