Unit 2: Choosing Curriculum to Integrate
Target objectives for Unit 2:
Upon completion of this unit, participants will:
1. understand how to integrate their own curriculum; and
2. choose their curriculum to integrate.
These e-lecture and reflection activities will take place over the next two weeks. You should begin these assignments now and post by June 7, 2019.
Activity #1: View the e-lecture and model of how to select curriculum to integrate.
Activity #2: Designing Integrated Curriculum- This video explains designing integrated curriculum. Please watch this video and then post three interesting facts or ideas you learned and two or three questions you still have to the course page. What is different about designing an integrated curriculum? Are you finding you may have done this before or a thematic unit before without realizing? (join by going to Google Classroom and using class code: x0mvf2).
Activity #3: With the understanding of how to select curriculum and the design process for integrating curriculum, choose the content units that you will integrate (note: there are reading, writing, math, science social studies units- not lessons but also not whole programs). Please indicate the curriculum you have chosen by posting a picture of your pairings or outline to the course page. (join by going to Google Classroom and using class code: x0mvf2).
1. Considering the two activities that took place during this unit, identify ways in which your thoughts about integrated curriculum may have changed and some hesitations or questions you still have. If you had reading and writing units that did not mesh well, how could you connect them by using the science or social studies topics?
