Introduction

In this unit, you will have a brief overview of Web 2.0 tools.

Web 2.0 is an umbrella term and refers to the second generation of the World Wide Web."It used to describe a variety of online collaborative and interactive tools designed for the user to generate content, make changes to the content, and to share the content easily and in real time."(Solomon and Schrum).

Several examples of features regarded as elements of Web2.0 are listed below:

  • Blogs- also known as Weblogs, it is a online journal that allows users to express their views, update personal file on the Web.
  • Wikis- is a web site that allows users to create or edit contents collaboratively without any required technical tools.The word "wiki" comes from Hawaiian language, meaning "quick" or fast." One famous example is Wikipedia. It is a free and open online encyclopedia created by anyone who registered on the site.
  • Digital media-sharing- sites like Facebook and Twitter allow users to customize their own profile, share images and videos to friends.

Web 2.0 technologies provided a significant new level of interaction between users that was not available before. Websites have become much more dynamic and interconnected,it makes easier and faster for users to communicate and share information on the Web.Most Web 2.0 applications are cost-free and friendly used.

Learning Objective

At the end of this unit, you will define Web 2.0 tools and the key characteristics of Web 2.0.

After watching a clever videos called "WEB 1.0 and WEB 2.0", you will know the major difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.

Mini-Lecture

In order to differentiate the Web1.0 and Web 2.0, you will watch a short video called "WEB1.0 and WEB 2.0."
