Unit Intro

In this first unit, you will be invited to dip your toes into the world of digital writing. You will explore examples of digital texts, learning about the varied forms they can take and purposes they can serve. You will hopefully start to build an appreciation for the artistry and sophistication of digital writing.


Lesson 1 will offer definitions of digital writing and examples of common digital writing genres. It will begin to show you the important role of multimedia in creating digital texts.

Lesson 2 will highlight some key differences between traditional and digital writing, including new elements of authors' craft present in digital texts. You will see how one high school teacher is transforming narrative, information, and argument writing in his classroom through the use of digital media projects.

Lesson 3 will get to the heart of why digital writing matters in the world and in the classroom. You will understand the vital role educators play in guiding young writers to the creation of meaningful digital texts.

Lesson 4will encourage you to start thinking about the culminating project you will develop for this course, with an early brainstorming of possible topics.
