Unit 1: What is and how to get a career
In this unit students will learn what the difference is between a career and a job. They will also learn the possible avenues they may need to take to get into a career they may be interested in. The students will also fill out practice applications. These will be sorted through and students that have done well will be interviewed in front of the class. This lesson is meant to take two 42 minute class periods, one of which will be spent either in the computer lab or with a mobile lab with interenet access.
By the end of this unit the student should be able to:
- Define the word career
- The student will be able to list the ideas to consider when choosing a career
- The student will be able to describe how to get and keep the career chosen

Click on the link below to print out the guideline sheet for students to follow while going through the powerpoint presentation. While watching the presentation the student is to fill in the blanks on the guidleine sheet.
Use the link below to have students go through the powerpoint. This is a self-paced activity. Be sure students are paying close attention on what is missing in the guileine sheet given for this information will be needed in the next lesson. Also while they are working through it remind them to think about how these ideas they are learning are linked to them. For example what are some things that they are naturally good at doing.
Have students follow through the following steps to get started with Career Zone.
Step 1: Click on the link to the right 
Step 2: Click on My Profile, and click create an account
Step 3: Click on My Abilites and check as many that match you. After doing so click on Next Step look closely at the careers the students were matched with in Zone 1.
Step 4: Click on My Journal and have students record their favorite career from Zone 1.
