1) What I liked:

Level 1:  My initial reaction to your mini-course was how relevant it is. I think right from the beginning you very clearly stated the purpose of the class was to learn to use technology to enhance engagement. Reading the intro page really made me want to know more! It was easy to use. The design was well laid out and very clean-looking.

 

Level 2: Your four objectives for your four units were very clearly stated. Nothing seemed superfluous. Every element appeared to be there to support the learning objectives.

 

2) Have you considered this?

I know the course is a draft, so these ideas may be things you will be adding anyway. But here are my ideas. One idea was under the “needs assessment section” on your into page, it might be neat to add an example of a standard that this mini-course might help to address since you were talking about how technology had affected new teaching standards.

 

It might help the ease of navigation to add a link at the end of Unit 1 that will get you to Unit 2 without having to go back to the intro page first. This might be something you are planning to add anyway, but I just wanted to throw that idea out there.

 

I don’t know if this is just the nature of the wiki page, but if there is a way to have the PDF’s in Unit 1 automatically open in a new window that would be helpful so that students don’t accidentally close the PDF and therefore close the mini-course page.

 

As far as objectives go, the objective for Unit 2 is to “learn strategies.” Have you considered a different verb, because “learn” seems very vague and hard to assess? Also, the objective of Unit 1 is to analyze research. I’m not sure if the “Do” part of Unit 1 contains much analyzing. It seems to be asking participants to reflect on current research. So perhaps the objective is to reflect more than analyze?

 

Again, I hope these ideas provide something that can be helpful to you. I think this is going to be a great course that I personally cannot wait to check out. Great start!

Thank you for the input! I will absolutely take into consideration your suggestions! I will fix my verbage and ensure better navigation! I am not sure how to change the way the pdf opens, but I will look into it. I am still working on the site, and I look forward to the process and change!

Hi Dede,

Your intro page is very organized and I really like the pictures and the bolded text that summarizes the course.  One suggestion is to add a link to ETAP 623.  I also noticed in your portfolio that you were linked to Zhang’s section instead of Byrne.

For Unit 1, I really like your overview.  It was a great summary of the information for Unit 1.  The pictures are a great addition also and add some fun to the page.  The layout is also very easy to follow and your links to the articles were clear.  Have you considered adding the objectives to the page?  I also think a video may add a different perspective.  One other suggestion is a way to share the research article summaries that the participants create.  As a participant, I would like to read some of the summaries.  The activities are well-structured and easy to understand.

Overall, great job and I look forward to seeing the next Units!
