==Introduction==

Instructors design lessons, teach students, and assess student understanding on a daily basis, but how often do instructor's evaluate their own instruction? Evaluating instruction is a critical practice for any instructor to understand his or her personal biases, methods, tones, preferences, and other characteristics that may influence student learning. The problem with doing this is that self-evaluating instruction is not always an intuitive process and it can be difficult to integrate into regular teaching practices. This mini-course is going to provide interested participants with the opportunity to learn how to integrate reflective teaching practices in their instruction for the purpose of evaluating it.

This mini-course is designed for individuals who provide instruction to others. The concepts in this course are applicable to instructors in a variety of instructional institutions, including K-12 schools, higher education, and corporate settings.

This mini-course spans four different units. The progression of the units is designed to help the participant gain a theoretical understanding of the topic and move towards practical application of the concepts. In this mini-course, the participant will engage in a variety of activities as he/she works towards the learning objectives.

*Upon reading and viewing course materials regarding the theoretical concepts behind reflective teaching, the participant will be able to justify why reflective teaching is an important practice for instructors through reflective journaling.

*After reviewing the components involved with evaluating instruction, the participant will reflect on his/her processes for evaluating his/her instruction by completing a checklist of evaluative strategies used in his/her instructional setting.

*Given a range of reflective teaching strategies, the participant will rate the viability of using each strategy in his/her classroom by comparing and contrasting various reflective teaching strategies.
