Lesson 1: Making a New Homework Policy
Unit 3 Lesson 1: Making a New Homework Policy>
Objective: Participants will be able to identify attributes that are valuable in homework assignments.
Introduction: "Assigning homework with a purpose means that through completing the assignment, the student will be able to obtain new knowledge, a new skill, or have a new experience that they may not otherwise have." (Meador, 2020)
3. Homework Ideas
Pick one homework option that you think would work in your classroom. What do you like about this homework assignment? How do you think your students will feel about it? How will you alter it to fit your students? What subject are you planning on implementing it in?
Reflect on the following questions in a notebook or journal. You will continue to reflect on concepts throughout the course, so keep the notebook on hand!
- Moving forward will you make any changes to your homework policy? - Will you grade homework? - Will you accept late homework? - Will your homework be assigned on a nightly, weekly, or monthly basis? - Do you need to have a conversation with parents when implementing these changes?
