Overview and Purpose

Welcome to the exciting world of 3D Printing! This course will provide an overview on the technology of 3D printing, offer case studies on how it is being used and will off an opportunity to look into the future. Students will not only learn about the technology, they will create their own object to be 3D Printed!

Needs Assessment

This course is designed to take someone with no previous experience with Digital Design for 3D Printing and bring them up to speed on the technology.

Performance Objectives

By taking this course, you will learn:

1. How a 3D Printer works

2. Safety and proper operation

3. What a 3D Printer is used for and how it might be used in the future

4. How to create a basic digital design for 3D Printing

Course Units

Unit 1 - Safety

Receive a brief introduction to the world of 3D Printing and learn safe operation of a 3D Printer.

Unit 2 - How does a 3D Printer Work

Learn how a 3D printer takes a digital file from a computer and creates a real world object you can hold in your hand.

Unit 3 - What is possible and what can be printed with a 3D printer?

Learn what people are using 3D Printers for and what they might be used for in the future.

Unit 4 - Digital Design for 3D Printing

Learn how to use a free, open source software program to create digital designs that can be 3D printed.

Unit 5 - In Person Workshop & Wrap up

At our one day workshop, you will watch as a 3D Printer creates a print from your digital file!
