· Learning outcomes (10%): Expected learning outcomes have been properly identified for the course focusing on “big ideas” related to the selected topic (i.e., ideas that can transform teachers’ understanding of and approaches to learning - consider the reading in week 4/5 about deep understanding and learning types); and communicated using clear, performance-based terms;

This is clearly stated and understandable. Very well done.

· Content-goal consistency (10%): The content and learning experience afforded by the course can help learners achieve the identified learning outcomes, sufficient and necessary.

This is evident in the different instructional strategies and use of technology. There is a conscious effort to be consistent and drive home the concepts meant to be learned.

· Instructional sequencing (20%): Specific learning objectives have been sequenced in a way that can facilitate the learning of the content, addressing prerequisites before proceeding to major concepts, highlighting connections.

This seems to be well thought out and not only are the main ideas being addressed over time, but the knowledge builds as you go through the course.

· Engagement and interaction (20%): Use effective strategies (e.g., prompts, headings, questions, scenarios, activities) to motivate learners, attract attentions, and promote reflection and interaction.

Again, the variety of strategies being used scaffolds many different learning styles and allows the learner to learn the ideas in different ways. This is helpful to reach as many learners as possible and offers an opportunity for everyone. The overall appearance of the course is also good in that it has eye-catching graphics and well-organized headings. Within the different units, the instruction and graphics are especially useful. The only thing I would suggest is to condense a little on the intro page or re-format. Some of the intro page is a bit “wordy” and may not draw in learners. Perhaps putting some more bullets in certain sections would help. For example, under the “Goals for mini-course” heading, you list 3 goals, but perhaps put those in bullet form rather than a paragraph as you did for some other sections. It’s great to have the details of those headings but it can seem like a lot to a potential learner.

· Technical quality (10%): Text and pictures are informative and easy to read. Navigation links are properly designed and highlighted to facilitate easy browsing.

This is also done very well and easy to see and use.

· Extended resources (10%): External, useful resources are linked, recommended, and acknowledged.

Well thought out and inserted appropriately.

Overall comments: Kristen, I think you’ve done an amazing job so far on this project. I am extremely impressed and have taken notes on trying to utilize some of your techniques for my own course. I know the idea is to give constructive feedback and I hate to be the person that says—oh, everything’s great, as that is not necessarily helpful. However, I must say—I really have pretty much all positive things to say. Your instruction is incredibly useful and easy to navigate as are the activities. Your check for understanding/assessment techniques seem very straight-forward, logical, and directly related to your learning outcomes. You seem like you remember a lot of the little things I’m forgetting in my own, such as the explanation of where submissions will go and ideas about how to really help the learner navigate around smoothly.

I also love that your third “goal” of the course makes it relatable to more people than just teachers. It is important for so many (especially parents) to understand the importance of this model, children’s behavior, and how to properly prepare and handle crisis, even in children who may have no diagnosis. It makes the course useful to such a wide audience.

As I stated above, some parts may get a little wordy at times, but they seem to be in appropriate places to explain in detail so I don’t know if it would help to change that up or not, but the bullet points there in the intro page would just be my suggestion since the intro page is where we try to catch their attention to take the course initially.

Keep up the good work here and I look forward to seeing the finished product here. As I think I stated before, I’m about to transition out of the job I’ve had for 5 years into a new one, where the first thing they’re having me do is become TCI certified! My new job is bringing the trainers from Cornell on site for the training and I’m so excited to have this insight before I start that in just a couple weeks.
