Overview

Immersive Technologies is a professional development program that aims to give you valuable insights in the new world yet to come. This class will dive into a three-dimensional environment. Instead of viewing a mobile screen in front of them, we will be immersed in the environment and able to interact with the world. This program will help you build your professional experience with technology and teach you networking and online teaching techniques with online learning. We will be focusing on building a VR classroom for future online school options. We will learn how to create an immersive experience with sound, movement, color and objects. Essentially, virtual reality (VR) enables students to actively participate in a realistic virtual environment, leading to deeper understanding and improved learning outcomes compared to traditional methods. Other important learning components in a VR classroom include: immersive experiences, active learning through interaction, enhanced visualization of complex concepts, increased engagement and knowledge retention, hands-on practice in simulated environments, development of critical thinking skills, collaborative learning opportunities, and the ability to explore scenarios from different perspectives.

Main elements of VR

Immersion: The capacity to feel totally present in the virtual world, which promotes involvement and presence.

Interaction: The ability to move things, engage with virtual worlds, and make decisions in the simulation, all of which support active learning.

Visualization: Making abstract things easier to understand by presenting them in a three-dimensional visual style.

Application-based learning allows students to apply information in a real-world setting by having them practice skills in a simulated setting.

Personalized learning is letting students investigate many facets of a subject according to their interests and at their own speed.

Collaboration: Encouraging student participation in the online setting to allow for group discussion and problem-solving

This mini-course is designed for K-12 teachers and instructional leaders who are looking to prepare for the future of education. Learners will participate in this mimi course and will walk away with the knowledge of teaching online in an immersive experience.

Teachers would be designing a classroom and through each step teachers will be assessing their progress. Each application will get students to think critically and create different steps to creating an immersive classroom. The goal is to make your classroom as real as possible. It's supposed to feel like you are in a classroom without actually being in a classroom.

Performance-Based Objectives

(1) Learners will understand how to navigate through modern technology and tools related to human perception.

2) Learners develop an application of VR experiment in a classroom setting

3) Learners will create an Immersive classroom setting

4) Learners will learn how to host to our VR classroom

***Goal is to create a fully online classroom setting through virtual reality. This mini course will prepare you for teaching online.

Tools needed

- uses XR Interaction Toolkit (and no specific platform tool), Oculus Quest 1&2, HP, HTC, etc).

- Voice chat with auto-detection

- Custom Avatar (male or female) for teachers / students

- Simpler representation for students, only head and hands.

-  whiteboard, the teacher can adjust its position.

- Students can connect both in VR and Android phone and iPhone

- Teacher can upload slides to device (Quest) and see them in VR.

- ALTSPACE
