About Me:

Hello Everyone! My name is Shelbi Babcock and I am a life-long learner. I am currently a permanent Instructional Substitute at the Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center. Working in this program has enlightened me to the many ways that the academics in secondary school can be connected to authentic experiences. I plan to teach high school mathematics and infuse many of the lessons I have learned on project-based and authentic learning into my own classroom. My future goals include earning a PhD and my Certificate of Advanced Studies for School Administration. I hope to work as a school building or school district administrator and help schools create effective curriculum to meet the needs of today's students and workforce.

Education:

Undergraduate Studies

I am a recent graduate of Mount Saint Mary College located in Newburgh, NY. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and have earned a New York State Teaching Certificate in Mathematics 7-12. I also earned a minor in Psychology and Hispanic Studies.

Graduate Studies

I am currently enrolled in the Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology Masters Degree program at SUNY Albany. I am enrolled in the fully online program and this is my first semester.

Personal Interests:

Outside of the classroom, I am an avid reader. I often have to hide my E-reader during the semester so I do not get distracted from my workload! I also spend a lot of my time teaching classes and coaching at Ziggy's Gymnastics Academy. I work with children ages 2-18 in gymnastics and cheerleading classes. I am the coach of the competitive cheerleading program at the gym, as well. I have used many of my "teaching skills", such as behavior management skills, lesson planning, and goal setting, to help me succeed in my position. I hope to one day be the curriculum director for all of our recreational gymnastics and cheerleading programs.
